Calibration of the mechanical boundary conditions for a patient-specific thoracic aorta model including the heart motion effect

IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering

Figure from “Calibration of the mechanical boundary conditions for a patient-specific thoracic aorta model including the heart motion effect”

Question

How should boundary conditions be calibrated when the heart moves the aortic root?

What the paper shows

Four parameters describing the support of surrounding tissue and spine were calibrated against cine-MRI, including the motion imposed by the heart. Calibration brought the simulated wall closer to the imaged one, and a coupled fluid–structure analysis confirmed the result.
