Computer-aided shape features extraction and regression models for predicting the ascending aortic aneurysm growth rate

Computers in Biology and Medicine

Figure from “Computer-aided shape features extraction and regression models for predicting the ascending aortic aneurysm growth rate”

Question

Can shape features extracted from imaging predict how fast an ascending aortic aneurysm grows?

What the paper shows

Seventy patients with two 3D scans each. Local shape features and statistical shape modes were computed on consistent meshes built with mesh morphing, then used in regression models of the growth rate. Global shape features gave the lowest prediction error, and aneurysms close to the root with a large initial diameter grew faster.
